Three female climbers have completed bouldering problems with a grade of V15 (the third-highest difficulty). The first was climbing prodigy Ashima Shiraishi (JPN/USA), who climbed "Horizon" on Mount Hiei, Japan, on 22 March 2016. The feat was matched in May 2018 by Kaddi Lehmann (DEU), who climbed the V15 "Kryptos" near Balsthal, Switzerland; and Mishka Ishi (JPN) in May 2019, who climbed the V15 “Byaku-dou” in Horai, Japan.

Ashima Shiraishi was only 14 when she broke this record, and she was the youngest person to climb a V15 problem until 2019, when the 13-year-old Mishka Ishi matched her achievement.

Bouldering entails rock climbing without ropes, usually on routes that rise no higher than 15 to 20 feet above the ground. Climbers typically use crash mats and spotters for safety. This discipline of rock climbing, by shortening the distance, places an emphasis on executing the hardest sequences of moves possible – puzzle-like arrangements of holds known as "problems" rather than "routes". Grades range from V0 at the low end of the scale, to V17 at the top.
