The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) was launched on 25 December 2021 at an estimated cost of approximately $9.5 billion ($11.8 billion inflation-adjusted to 2020 and including the $861 million earmarked for the telescope's first five years of operational costs). Around $8.8 billion came from NASA, $156 million from Canada (CAD $200 million), and $792 million from ESA (€700 million, including the $175 million cost of the Ariane 5 launch vehicle).
