The first triple somersault by a woman was performed in 1930 by Antoinette Concello performing with the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus.
According to Steve Gossart, who is a flying trapeze researcher and historian, several knowledgeable and reliable people he interviewed, contemporaries of Antoinette Concello, confirmed the fact that Antoinette Concello turned the triple in the 1930s, or at least, had turned the triple. The problem is that we have never seen any picture, or film (a medium not so used at the time anyway) of it. And if Ringling stressed the fact in their PR, the feat is rarely reported in reviews and the press in a truly convincing manner. The triple somersault was also caught by Lena Jordan and Terry Cavaretta, who were both teenagers when they completed their first triple. However, Terry Cavaretta was certainly the first woman who was able to do it consistently, and twice a day.
According to Dominique Jando of Circopedia, Lena Jordan of the Flying Jordans is apparently also the first aerial triple-somersaulter in history: she completed her first triple probably in 1896 in New York (at Koster & Bial's Theater), and was seen turning it in 1897 in Australia-although it is not sure that it was on the flying trapeze (it could have been from catcher to catcher).
