Dan has skateboarded since a young age, having initially got into the sport in an attempt to improve his snowboarding skills. He was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa at the age of 13 and his visual acuity gradually reduced over time. He stopped skating for a number of years after losing his eyesight but picked it back up again after building a bench to practice on. He has now remastered the skill and uses sounds and cracks to help orientate when he is on the board.
Alongside his skating, Dan has earned a Vision Rehabilitation Therapist qualification.
