The largest Christmas pudding ever weighed 3.28 tonnes (7,231lb 1oz) and was made by the villagers of Aughton, Lancashire, UK and officially unveiled at the Famous Aughton Pudding Festival held on 11 July 1992.
Work on the pudding had started on 3 July and it was ready the day before the festival. According to a feature in The Guardian (25 April 1992), the pudding was made from 1,000 lb of raisins, currants, sultanas, carrots, sugar and suet; 250 lb of flour and candied peel; 15 lb of nutmeg; 5 lb of salt; 2,250 eggs; 35 gallons of milk; 15 gallons of brandy; and 1,500 lb of other secret ingredients known only to the chief pudding maker, Mitzi Hayhurst, and her mother - and festival president - Annie Clarke. The secret recipe was handed down to Mrs Clarke by her grandmother 70 years before. The mixture was blended for 30 hours in a concrete mixer and steamed in a giant stainless-steel vat.
