The first season (10 episodes) of Netflix's lavish The Crown (2016) cost a widely reported $130 million. The series follows the life of Queen Elizabeth II from the 1940s to the present day. Based in part on writer Perter Morgan's 2013 stage play The Audience, the series reunited many of the creative team behind the Oscar-winning 2006 movie The Queen.
