Jokić received 91 first-place votes from 101 ballots. He played all 72 games of the shortened 2020/21 season for the Denver Nuggets and averaged 26.4 points, 10.9 rebounds, 8.4 assists and 1.32 steals in 34.8 minutes. This helped the Nuggets to a 47-25 record and the third seed in the Western Conference. He joins Dirk Nowitzki (Germany) and Giannis Antetokounmpo (Greece) as MVP winners from Europe.
Three-time NBA MVP Moses Malone was technically not selected in the NBA Draft, but was selected in the 1974 American Basketball Association (ABA) draft before the ABA merged with the NBA in 1976.
