James Gimzewski (UK) and a team of scientists at IBM Research Division's Zurich research Laboratory, Zurich, Switzerland, created a calculator with a diameter of less than one millionth of a millimetre. The molecular abacus consists of ten molecules of carbon 60, that can be moved along a microscopic groove on a copper surface with the tip of a scanning tunnelling microscope.
