The largest meteorite exhibited by any museum is the largest fragment of the Cape York meteorite, weighing 30,883 kilograms (68,085 pounds), found in 1897 near Cape York, on the west coast of Greenland, by the expedition of Commander (later Rear Admiral) Robert Edwin Peary (1856–1920). It was known to the Inuits as Ahnighito ("the Tent") and is now exhibited at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City, USA.
