Of the 88 constellations, Hydra (the Sea Serpent), is the largest, covering 1302.844deg2 or 3.16% of the whole sky and containing at least 68 stars visible to the naked eye (to 5.5 magnitude). The constellation Centaurus (Centaur), ranking ninth in area, however, embraces at least 94 such stars.
