With five nominations for the 65th Annual Grammy Awards on 5 February 2023, Jay-Z (USA, b. Shawn Carter) took his career total to 88 – the same number as his wife, Beyoncé, after she picked up nine nominations for the 2023 Grammys. Among male artists, Sir Paul McCartney (81), Quincy Jones (80) and Kanye West (75) trail the rapper for nominations, with Sir Georg Solti (74; the most decorated male winner – 31) and Stevie Wonder (74) next. Jay-Z won 24 Grammys between 1999 and 2022.
Jay-Z’s 2023 nominations were for Album of the Year (as a songwriter on Beyoncé’s Renaissance), Song of the Year (“God Did”, by DJ Khaled feat. Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, Jay-Z, John Legend & Fridayy; and as a songwriter on Beyoncé’s “Break My Soul”), Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance (both for “God Did”).
Jay-Z’s first three nominations came in 1999, when he won Best Rap Album for Vol. 2… Hard Knock Life.
