The first player to reach level 50 in Pokémon Go (2016, Niantic) is “FleeceKing” (Australia), who achieved the milestone at 3am local time on 26 January 2021.
FleeceKing streamed hitting level 50, the maximum level in Pokémon Go, live on Twitch to nearly 5000 viewers. He was accompanied by his mum, who, FleeceKing said, “was just as passionate and was super happy for me.” Fellow Australian player “Lauren Lolly” hit level 50 just 16 minutes later.
At the time, FleeceKing had walked an incredible 20,614 km, catching nearly 800,000 Pokémon along the way.
Niantic had raised the Pokémon Go level cap from 40 to 50 in late 2020, sparking a race to hit the new max among the game's most dedicated players.
FleeceKing didn't stop there. In January 2023, he hit the monumental goal of two billion XP points on his account, which was created six years ago.
