Josh Groban’s (USA) Noël and Michael Bublé’s (Canada/Italy) Christmas both landed at No.2 on the year-end Billboard 200 Albums survey, in 2008 and 2012 respectively. They are among just four holiday-themed albums to make the Top 10 of the best-sellers list since 2002.
Noël, which sold 3.7 million copies in the US in 2007 and a further 915,000 copies in 2008, stalled at No.2 behind Alicia Keys’ As I Am on Billboard’s 2008 year-end chart.
Christmas, which shifted 2.4 million copies in the US in 2011 and a further 622,000 copies in 2012, was kept off the top spot by Adele’s 21 on Billboard’s 2012 year-end chart.
Andrea Bocelli’s My Christmas (No.6 in 2010) and Susan Boyle’s The Gift (No.5 in 2011) are the other holiday albums that have made the Top 10 since 2002.
Christmas has been ever-present in the year-end Billboard 200 chart since it was released, finishing at No.2 (2012), No.35 (2013), No.51 (2014), No.77 (2015), No.125 (2016), No.146 (2017), No.154 (2018) and No.130 (2019).
Billboard’s year-end music recaps are based on sales performance across a non-calendar-year 12-month period. In 2012, for example, the qualification period was the charts dated 3 December 2011 to 24 November 2012.
