The highest break in snooker is 153, achieved by Ronnie O’Sullivan (UK) at the World Open in Yushan, Jiangxi, China, on 20 March 2026.
O’Sullivan made snooker history in the opening frame of his quarter-final match against Ryan Day, compiling a 153 break – six more than the “maximum” of 147 (15 reds with 15 blacks). A foul by Day gave O’Sullivan a free ball, allowing him to pot the green as an additional red ball before sinking his opening black. He then potted all 15 reds with 13 blacks and two pinks, before clearing up the colours.
