The ferry Dona Paz, sailing from Tacloban to Manila, Phillipines, collided with the tanker Vector in the early hours of December 21, 1987, with both vessels sinking within minutes. The Dona Paz officially had 1,550 passengers on board but reports claim it may have had as many as 4,000. Only 24 people survived.
