The largest propeller has a diameter of 9.6 m (31 ft 6 in) and weighs more than 130 tonnes (286,600 lb). Because of its massive size, it required two weeks to cool after casting and then three weeks of milling before it was ready for delivery and installation. It was constructed by Mecklenburger Metallguss GmbH (MMG) of Germany for the Emma Maersk, then one of the world's longest ships.
Although the Triple-E-class ships that Maersk brought into service in 2013 are now longer than the Emma Maersk, the company's own website reports that the propellers are far lighter:
