Created in honour of the Modernist architect Antoni Gaudí (1852-1926), the rhodium-coated solid silver pen has an 18-carat gold nib and is pavé-set with 5,072 diamonds totalling 20 carats as well as 96 half-cut rubies which are arranged at the top of the cap to form the company monogram. The 5,168 gems were set by jeweller Robert Perron (Switzerland) and took six months to produce from conception to completion.Although first unveiled at the 'Paperworld' exhibition in Frankfurt, Germany, with a price tag of 350,000 Swiss francs (US$203,000), the pen actually went on sale in the UK at Harrods, London with the record-breaking price in September 1999. There is only one of these pens in existence which remains unsold to date.
