The fastest time to stack seven cups by a dog is 12.08 seconds, and was achieved by Rebel (UK) and trainer Kathleen Tepperies (Germany) in Polegate, East Sussex, UK, on 16 January 2021.
Rebel is a five year old Jack Russel Terrier and knows over 100 tricks, including skipping, posting a letter into a post box, and rolling himself into a blanket. He was trained to perform the trick by Kathleen Tepperies (Germany) who uses positive reinforcement to encourage Rebel to repeat certain actions. Kathleen's family always had animals while she was growing up and from an early age she developed an interest in training her pet dog and budgie.
When asked what the key is to teaching animals to perform skills, Kathleen said "there is no trick - it is like with any other skills - it take patience, practise, time and commitment. It should be enjoyable for both the handler and the animal."
On what becoming a Guinness World Records title holder means to them both, Kathleen added: "Achieving a Guinness World Records title would mean so much to me. Rebel was picked up as a stray when he was young and this would be proof that even rescue dogs can achieve great things and enjoy life."
