P1xelAndy is a competitive Tetris player and has achieved top-three placings in the Classic Tetris World Championships (CTWC). He is only the third person to ever "beat" the game, which he achieved just days after fellow American "Blue Scuti" became the first and Justin Yu the second. Andy's brother "Dog" is also a competitve Tetris player, and the youngest winner of the CTWC.

In March 2024, a higher score was achieved on the NTSC NES version of the game by US player "Alex T" (Alex Thach) with 16,248,080 points; this was using a ROM hack that bypasses the crash screen, thus allowing a much greater opportunity to amass points.
