The first person to win gold at FIVB Volleyball World Cup as a player and coach is Lang Ping (China), as a player in 1981 and 1985, and as a coach in 2015 and 2019.


Lang Ping (Jenny, aka "Iron Hammer") won her first gold medal won at FIVB Volleyball World Cup came in 1981 and the China Women’s National Team she served secured the gold in next World Cup in 1985. She announced retirement in 1986 and then started her career as a coach. She guided the Chinese national team to the gold medals in 2015 World cup and 2019 World cup.

Lang was an assistant coach at the University of New Mexico from 1987–89 and 1992-93, and she became the head coach of Chinese national team in 1995 but resigned in 1998 due to health reasons. In the following year, she took a head coaching position in the Italian professional volleyball league till 2005. She then became the coach of the US National Team in same year. In year 2013, for the second time she became the head coach of the China Women’s National Volleyball team.
