Michel Serrault (France, 1928–2007) is the only man to win Best Actor three times (from seven nominations) at the César Awards, in 1979 (for La Cage aux Folles, aka Birds of a Feather), 1982 (Garde à Vue, aka The Inquisitor) and 1996 (Nelly et Monsieur Arnaud).

Three more individuals have won three acting awards at the Césars: André Dussollier (France) won Best Actor in 1998 (for On connaît la chanson; Same Old Song) and Best Supporting Actor in 1993 (Un cœur en hiver; A Heart in Winter) and 2002 (La Chambre des officiers; The Officers’ Ward). Mathieu Amalric (France) won Most Promising Actor in 1997 (for Comment je me suis disputé... (ma vie sexuelle); My Sex Life… or How I Got into an Argument) and Best Actor in 2005 (Rois et reine; Kings and Queen) and 2008 (Le Scaphandre et le Papillon; The Diving Bell and the Butterfly). Finally, Niels Arestrup (France) won Best Supporting Actor on three occasions, in 2006 (for De battre mon cœur s'est arrêté; The Beat that My Heart Skipped), 2010 (Un prophète; A Prophet) and 2014 (Quai d'Orsay; The French Minister).
