England (24) and the West Indies (22) produced a total of 46 sixes in a One-Day International (ODI) at the National Cricket Stadium in St George’s, Grenada, on 27 February 2019. Chris Gayle (14) and Jos Buttler (12) contributed 26 maximums alone as the batsmen ran riot in the fourth match of a high-scoring ODI series.
The 46 sixes in the match were hit by Gayle (14), Buttler (12), Eoin Morgan (6), Jonny Bairstow (4), Darren Bravo (4), Alex Hales (2), Carlos Brathwaite (2), John Campbell (1) and Shimron Hetmyer (1).
England’s 24 sixes was a new single-team record in an ODI, beating the 23 sixes struck by the West Indies in the first match of the series, in Bridgetown, Barbados, on 20 February 2019.
England (418 for 6) beat the West Indies (389 all out) by 29 runs in Grenada to lead the five-match series 2-1. The aggregate total of 807 runs was the third-highest in ODI history, and the 532 runs scored in boundaries – 46 sixes (276 runs) and 64 fours (256 runs) – was the most ever produced in an ODI.
