Saga, a sci-fi/fantasy comic-book series written by Brian K Vaughan (USA), illustrated by Fiona Staples (Canada) and published monthly by Image Comics (USA), has been named the Best Continuing Series at the annual Eisner Awards four times, in 2013–15 and 2017. The series was first published on 14 March 2012 and as of 1 January 2019 had resulted in 12 Eisner Awards, including Best New Series (2013), Best Writer (Vaughan, 2013–14, 2017), Best Painter/Multimedia Artist (Staples, 2014), Best Artist/Penciller/Inker (Staples, 2015, 2017) and Best Cover Artist (Staples, 2017).

Vaughan claims to have conceived of the idea for Saga while bored during a school maths class, citing Star Wars, Flash Gordon and The Silver Surfer as his inspiration. The storyline – which centres around two lovers from warring extraterrestrial races who struggle to raise a child – finally revealed itself to him after the birth of his second daughter. A trade paperback collection of the first six issues was published on 10 October 2012 and appeared at No. 6 on the New York Times Graphic Books Best Seller list for the week of 29 October.
