The first female amputee to climb Everest (8,848 m; 29,029 ft) was single amputee Arunima Sinha (India), who reached the summit from the south side and with the aid of bottled oxygen on 21 May 2013 at 10:55 a.m.. Sinha, a former national volleyball and football player, lost her leg in 2011, when she was pushed off a moving train while resisting a robbery attempt.
