Valve Corporation's principle game creation tool, the Source engine premiered its first fully-original title in 2004 with the released of Half-Life 2.
Counter-Strike: Source came out two weeks earlier, but this was an adaptation of the already existing game rather than a wholly original game.
Videogame engines are the set of software tools a videogame company use to build their videogames. They are frequently reused and further developed by these companies over time.
The original Source Engine was used in various modified forms for games released by Valve between 2004 and the release of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive in 2012.
