The best-selling videogame starring Luigi Mario as the lead is Luigi's Mansion 3 (Nintendo, 2019), which launched on the Nintendo Switch on 31 October 2019. As of 31 March 2024, it had sold a mighty 14.25 million units. Playing off Luigi's slightly timid personality, the Luigi's Mansion games are spooky third-person adventures in which our hero must rescue his friends from a building brimming with dangerous ghouls. Don't worry: Luigi can capture ghosts by sucking them up in his "Poltergust" vacuum cleaner.
The first Luigi's Mansion released on 14 September 2001, and the sequel, Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon came out in 2013 as part of the celebrations for Nintendo's "Year of Luigi", marking the 30th anniversary of Luigi's first appearance in a videogame in 1983's Mario Bros..
The first time that Luigi got his own spin-off title was 1990's Luigi's Hammer Toss for the Game & Watch.
