The farthest distance crawling under barbed wire in 12 hours is 12.13 km (7.54 miles), and was achieved by Eric Hutterer (Canada) at the 2018 Spartan Death Race in Pittsfield, Vermont, USA, on 13 July 2018.

Eric completed more than 31 laps of the 386.79 m (1,269 ft) course. He was the top finisher of ten "Death Racers" who competed against each other for the record title.

The 2018 Spartan Death Race began at 10:00pm EST on July 11 and concluded at 11:00am EST on July 14, with the record attempt occuring from 9:30am-9:30pm EST on July 13. The participants did not know what they were getting into before they began. The full itinerary endured by the Death Racers before and after the record attempt is as follows:

1.5 hr chopping wood; 13 hr hike carrying sandbags; 1 hr swim with sandbags; 1 hr moving boulders; 30 min barbed wire crawl; 3 hr yardwork, including hauling buckets of rocks and chopping down trees; 9.5 hr burpees; 1 hr hike; 1.5 hr miscellaneous exercise drills; 12 HR BARBED WIRE CRAWL; 3 hr hike; 7 hr perpetual rope climb; 1 hr hike; they were told they were finally able to sleep for a couple hours, but were roused after 2 min for 1 hr miscellaneous exercise drills; and finally, 1.5 hrs to glue together their skull trophies, which had been smashed into pieces.

12 of the 70 original participants completed the full Death Race from start to finish, including title holder Eric Hutterer.
