The online virtual world of the life sim Second Life (Linden Research, 2003) has a Gross Domestic Product of $500 million. Not only is this larger than hat of some real-world countries, but it also beats any other virtual world. The world makes use of its own digital currency called the Linden Dollar and it launched in 2003.
According to the latest figures from the International Monetary Fund, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the USA was $18,624.48 billion in 2016.
