Most discussed sports event on X (formerly Twitter)

The 2014 FIFA World Cup prompted 672 million tweets. The semi-final match between hosts Brazil and Germany (which Germany won 7–1) attracted 35.6 million tweets, more than any other game. By contrast, the final, in which Germany defeated Argentina 1–0, resulted in 32.1 million tweets. However, the final did give rise to the peak rate of tweets during the whole tournament: 618,725 tweets per minute.
