Although "table-tennis sim" Pong effectively established the mechanics in 1972, there were three arcade games released in 1973 that were more directly based on the game of soccer. These were Taito's Soccer, created by legendary Japanese developer Tomoriho Nishikado, Super Soccer by Allied Leisure Industries and Soccer by Ramtek. All were paddle games very similar in concept to Pong. A 1978 game simply called Football perhaps made larger strides in resembling the sport.
