Most goals scored by a player in a single Bundesliga season

The most goals scored by a player in a single Bundesliga season is 41, achieved by Robert Lewandowski (Poland), playing for Bayern Munich, in the 2020-21 season.

The previous record of 40 goals was held by legendary striker Gerd Müller (Germany) and had stood for 49 years.

Having already equalled Müller's tally going into the final fixture of the season - a home game against FC Augsburg - Lewandowski was scoreless until the final minute of the match, when he rounded the goalkeeper and swept in the record-breaking strike.

He finished the season with a minutes-per-goal average of 60, as Bayern took home their ninth consecutive Bundesliga title.
