Best-selling PS4 exclusive videogame

The best-selling PS4-exclusive is Marvel's Spider-Man (Sony/Insomniac Games, 2018), which sold 3.3 million copies within three days of its launch on 7 September 2018 and by 2020 had shifted over 20 million units.

The third-person open-world action-adventure game sees the web-slinger take on crime lord Mister Negative after he threatens to take out New York City with a deadly virus. The game was a commercial and critical success, being named by various reviewers as one of the best superhero games ever made.

The 20-million figure was not released officially by Sony but gleaned from the LinkedIn page of PlayStation's Senior Global Brand Marketing Manager, David Bull, listing his achievements at the company. The last reported sales figure from PlayStation was 13.2 million copies, announced in August 2019, coinciding with Sony Interactive Entertainment purchasing the game's creators, Insomniac, as a first-party developer. A remastered edition was issued for the PlayStation 5 on 12 November 2020 and for PC on 12 August 2022, and a sequel, Spider-Man 2, was released for the PS5 on 20 October 2023.
