According to the FAI, André Borschberg (Switzerland) flew Solar Impulse 2 for 117 hours 52 minutes (or 4 days 21 hours 52 minutes), leaving Nagoya in Japan on 28 June 2015 and landing in Hawaii, USA, on 3 July 2015. The total distance covered was 8,924 km (5,545 miles).

The flight was the eighth leg of what proved to be the first circumnavigation in a solar-powered aeroplane, achieved by André Borschberg and his co-pilot Bertrand Piccard (Switzerland). Unfortunately, during the flight the batteries in Solar Impulse 2 overheated badly, necessitating lengthy repairs after the landing in Hawaii. This delayed the continuation of the round-the-world flight by nearly 10 months.
