The Edmonton Oilers missed the playoffs for a 10th consecutive year following the 2015–16 regular season, equalling the all-time NHL record for futility. The Oilers last appeared in the postseason in 2006. The other team to miss the playoffs for 10 straight years was the Florida Panthers from 2001 to 2011. (The 2005 playoffs were cancelled.)
