Most changes to a national flag

The flag of the USA, which added a star every time a state joined the Union, is the flag that has had the most changes. It currently stands at 26 changes since its adoption on 14 June 1777, when the the Second Continental Congress passed the Flag Resolution. Flag Day is now observed on 14 June of each year.

The flag of Afghanistan has had 20 changes since the start of the 20th century, most of which are substantive – such as the change of colours – rather a change in the details.
