To celebrate Pokémon's 20th anniversary in October 2016, the Pokémon Company released a solid gold reissue of the first Pikachu card, which it priced at 216,000 yen (£1,699). The very limited-edition card was designed by the Japanese jewellery company Tanaka Precious Metals and weighed in at 11 grams of 24 karat gold. The Pokémon Company made the point of stating that the card wasn't eligible for official tournaments or competitive play.
The card could only be purchased online in Japan.
