Staged at The Forum in Inglewood, California, USA, on 1–4 September 2016, the 2016 Call of Duty World League Championship was watched by approximately 20 million viewers, as 32 teams battled it out in Call of Duty: Black Ops III (2015). US outfit Team EnVyUs beat Splyce in the final to take home the bulk of the record-breaking $2 million prize pool. The prestigious contest was the fourth annual Call of Duty Championship and publisher Activision also reported that its peak concurrent viewing was 40% higher than previous tournaments. The contest was broadcast in five languages, on Twitch, YouTube, Facebook, MLG and Ginx TV.

As of 16 September 2016, the $2 million prize pool was the largest for a Call of Duty tournament. It was $500,000 shy of the largest prize pool for an FPS and a console tournament, which is held by the 2016 Halo World Championship.
