The most Olympic basketball medals won by an individual male is 4, achieved by Gennadi Volnov (Russia) from the 1960 Rome Olympics to the 1972 Munich Olympics. This was equalled by Sergei Belov (Russia) from the 1968 Mexico City Olympics to the 1980 Moscow Olympics; and by Carmelo Anthony (USA) from the 2004 Athens Olympics to the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Volnov won gold in 1972, silver medals in 1960 and 1964, and a bronze medal in 1968.

Belov also won gold in 1972, and three bronze medals in 1968, 1976 and 1980.

Anthony won a bronze medal in 2004, this was followed by three straight gold medals from 2008 to 2016.
