Tim Burton's landmark 1989 Batman movie was adapted into six unique videogames, published by three separate games companies between 1989 and 1991. Ocean's Batman: The Movie was released for 8-bit and 16-bit computers in 1989. Sunsoft created the side-scrolling action platformers Batman The Video Game for the NES, Gameboy and Sega Genesis in 1989 and 1990/1991. Despite similar gameplay mechanics, each title featured different level designs, sequences, baddies and plot twists. The company also adapted the film in the form of top-down PAC-Man clone for the PC Engine in 1990. Finally, Atari released a side-scrolling beat-'em up for arcade halls entitled Batman. That game was developed by Data East.
