On 12 October 2008, game developer Richard Allen Garriott aka "Lord British" (UK/USA dual nationality) boarded the Soyuz TMA-13 and flew to the International Space Station, where he docked two days later. Garriott is well known as the creator of the RPG series Ultima and coined the term "MMORPG" in 1997 with the release of Ultima Online. Garriott reportedly paid $30 million for the privilege of flying to space and became the second second-generation space traveller behind Sergei Volkov (Russia).

Richard is the son of NASA astronaut Owen Garriott, who spent approximately 60 days in space in 1973.
