Novak Djokovic (Serbia) reached a record eight ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Masters 1000 finals in 2015. The world number one was runner-up in Montreal and Cincinnati but won six events, in Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo, Rome, Shanghai and Paris – the most ATP Masters 1000 singles titles won in a season.

Previously, four players held the record, each with six Masters 1000 singles finals in one season: Rod Laver (1970), Roger Federer (2006), Novak Djokovic (2011–12) and Rafael Nadal (2013).

Djokovic failed to reach only one of the nine Masters 1000 finals in 2015 – the Madrid Open final was contested by Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal.

Djokovic was a losing Masters 1000 finalist twice in seven days in August 2015, against Andy Murray in Montreal and Roger Federer in Cincinnati.

Djokovic took his total number of Masters 1000 tournament wins to 26 by the end of the 2015 season. Only Rafael Nadal has more titles than Djokovic, with 27 wins between 2005 and 2014.

Djokovic won a total of 11 ATP titles in 2015. In addition to six Masters 1000 titles, he won three Grand Slams (Australian Open, Wimbledon, US Open), the China Open (a World Tour 500 event) and the season-ending World Tour Finals.

The nine ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournaments are regarded as the most prestigious events on the ATP calendar after the four Grand Slams and the World Tour Finals. The Masters 1000 circuit began in 2009 and was preceded by the ATP Masters Series (1990–2008) and the Grand Prix Super Series (1970–89).
