The world’s largest permanent LEGO Minifigure-scale installation is the Millyard Project, housed in the SEE Science Center in Manchester, New Hampshire, USA. The project is a reconstruction of the city’s Amoskeag Millyard as it was at the beginning of the 20th century. The installation was constructed from three million LEGO bricks and features some 8,000 LEGO Minifigures. It took employees of the LEGO Company approximately 10,000 person-hours to complete the display between 2004 and 2006. It was built exclusively from production LEGO bricks – no custom-made components were used.
In 1915, the Amoskeag Manufacturing Company, which operated the original Amoskeag mill complex, was the largest textile manufacturer in the world. At its height, the mill spanned one-and-a-half miles (2.4 km), straddling the Merrimack River on Manchester’s west side, and was a workplace for as many as 17,000 people.
