The highest partnership for any wicket in a T20 International (male) is 258 unbroken runs by openers Kendel Kadowaki-Fleming and Lachlan Yamamoto-Lake (both Japan) at an East Asia Cup match against China at the Mission Road Ground in Mong Kok, Hong Kong SAR, China, on 15 February 2024.

Team captain Kadowaki-Fleming (109 not out from 53 balls) and Yamamoto-Lake (134 not out from 68 balls) hit 23 sixes between them to smash the five-year-old record of 236 runs, set by Afghanistan openers Hazratullah Zazai and Usman Ghani in a T20 International (T20I) against Ireland in Dehradun, India, on 23 February 2019.

Chasing a target of 259 in 20 overs proved too much for China, who were bundled out for 78 in 16.5 overs. Japan’s winning margin – 180 runs – was the seventh-highest victory by runs in the 2,470 men's T20Is played by 15 February 2024, while 258 was the joint 10th-highest team score in a men's T20I.

The seven-match, four-day East Asia Cup 2024 was contested by China, Hong Kong SAR and Japan in Mong Kok and was won by the undefeated hosts, who saw off Japan by 34 runs in the final on 17 February.

Left-hander Kadowaki-Fleming (217), 28, and right-hander Yamamoto-Lake (151), 21, who both played four of Japan’s five matches, ended the tournament as the leading run-scorers.
