"Frank" (short for "Frankenstein") is an experiment to demonstrate that a functioning artificial human body can be created from the component parts now available in bionics. Unveiled on 17 October 2013, Frank – who has 18 individual bionic body parts – was inspired by Professor Bertolt Meyer of Chemnitz University of Technology, Switzerland, and created by Darlow Smithson Productions and Shadow Robot (both UK). Frank resides at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, USA, where he converses with human museum-goers using a laser-scanned copy of Professor Bertolt Meyer's own face.
The professor is himself a user of prosthetic limbs.
Frank was created for the documentary How to Build a Bionic Man.
