The most countries visited by car non-consecutively is 180 and was achieved by Gunther Holtorf (Germany), who drove his Mercedes-Benz G-wagon, nicknamed "Otto", around the world between 18 December 1988 and 18 October 2014.

Between 1990 and 2010 Gunther was accompanied on this epic voyage by his late partner, Christine. After Christine passed away in 2010 the couple's son, Martin, and a friend, Elke Dreweck, joined him.

Gunther returned to Germany on several occasions in between visiting the four corners of the world, but he always travelled home in his faithful Otto.
