The most World Motorcycle Championships career race wins in the Moto GP (500 cc) class is 89 by Valentino Rossi (Italy) riding for Honda, Ducati and Yamaha from 9 July 2000 to 25 June 2017. His first win came in the British Grand Prix riding for Honda in the 500 cc championships, which was rebranded as MotoGP in 2002. Thirteen of Rossi’s wins came in 500 cc, with the remaining 76 coming in MotoGP. He has been crowned World Champion seven times: in 2001–05 and 2008–09.

Giacomo Agostini achieved 122 World Motorcycle Championship victories between 1965–77 – the highest number overall – but 54 of his wins came at 350 cc, leaving him on 68 victories at 500 cc.
