The most fireproof carnivorous plant, i.e., most capable of withstanding the destructive effects of fire, is the cobra lily Darlingtonia californica, which is not a true lily but is, in fact, a species of pitcher plant native to the southern end of the Cascade Mountains range in northern California and southern Oregon, USA. Brushfires regularly sweep through this area, and so the cobra lily has evolved the ability to regrow its leaves and pitchers from the root block.

This distinctive species, a member of the American pitcher plant family, Sarraceniaeceae, was scientifically discovered in 1841 by botanist William D. Brackenridge on Mount Shasta, California, and was formally described and named by John Torrey in 1853 in honour of Philadelphia botanist William Darlington. It earns its evocative common name, the cobra lily, from the resemblance of its tubular leaves to a rearing hooded cobra, accompanied by a forked leaf that resembles that serpent's forked tongue.
