South Africa (259 for 4) beat the West Indies (258 for 5) with seven balls to spare at SuperSport Park in Centurion, South Africa, on 26 March 2023. Johnson Charles’ 46-ball 118 for the Windies proved to be in vain as openers Quinton de Kock (100) and Reeza Hendricks (68) plundered a 152-run partnership to guide the hosts home.

Australia’s 245 for 5 (also in 18.5 overs) against New Zealand (243 for 6) in Auckland on 16 February 2018 had been the highest successful run chase in a T20 International (T20I).

Bulgaria posted 246 for 4 at home to Serbia (242 for 4) in Sofia on 26 June 2022, but the visitors had set a target one run lower than New Zealand’s against Australia in Auckland.

The thriller at Centurion set new T20I records for the highest match aggregate (517 runs), the most sixes in a match (35; West Indies 22, South Africa 13) and the most runs from fours and sixes in a match (394; 46 fours and 35 sixes).
