Kaffeklubben Island, the northernmost tip of Greenland, at 83 degrees 40 minutes N, is the most northerly land on Earth under the control of a monarchy. Greenland became a Danish colony in 1814 and part of the realm of Denmark in 1953. Greenland was granted home rule in 1979 while remaining part of the sovereign state of the Kingdom of Denmark.
