The highest-paid rugby union player is Dan Carter (New Zealand), who has signed a contract with Top 14 club Racing Metro for a reported €1.5 m (£790,000) per annum or €125,000 (£65,833.33) per month. The contract will run for three years from October 2015.
Dan Carter will replace Jonathan Sexton at Racing Metro; the Irish fly-half was earning €52,000 a month in 2013 – slightly less than Jonny Wilkinson of Toulon, earning €56,000 per month.
Carter is the all-time leading points scorer in international rugby and in Super Rugby, where he has been playing for the Canterbury Crusaders.
